Basic Recipes and Ideas
One of the main elements of successful cooking is not being afraid to experiment with spices and seasonings. Getting a deep flavour into sauces and dressing is one of the most exciting aspects of cooking.
The ethos of Shaman's kitchen is that by implementing simple techniques and ideas, often forgotten in today's fast food age, we ensure there is always something in the fridge to use as a base to prepare another nutritious delight. Creating a flow in the way we cook sets the tone for the way we live and enhances a sense of well-being.
Good leftovers are very important, there is in fact 'nothing so fine as good leftovers', when treated with respect, i.e. cooled, covered and then refrigerated. They are one of the foundations of a Shaman's Kitchen. The recipes have suggestions on how to use them in ways that are different from there original use. See Recipe 1 in this section.
The recipes show how to use whole hemp seed, oil, flour and the shelled seed to their true potential. Shelled hemp seed may be made into a cream in its most simple form; it is a stable emulsifier for dressings and mayonnaise, a healthy nutritious rich cream that is positively good for you! The links to Mayonnaise and dressings and Dessert sections also have ideas for using nut and seed creams to replace eggs and dairy.
It is now understood that the best diet is varied, containing freshly prepared wholesome produce with a combination of cooked and raw foods. Using sprouts in recipes increases the nutritional content of your meal; this idea can be used to produce delicious alternative dressings, burgers or falafel. For examples see The sprouted garden.
